DAY 1

Chengdu Arrival

Stay at Chengdu(Holiday Inn Express or the same standard)

DAY 2

Depart from Chengdu(500 meters) to Yajiang(2650 meters). 

As we will travel on the high plateau, we need to be very careful about the AMS. AMS stands for Acute Mountain Sickness, a condition that occurs when people ascend to high altitudes too quickly and experience symptoms such as headache, nausea, fatigue, and dizziness. It may even cause very serious diseases such as pulmonary edema. Considering the AMS, the driving distance, and the hotel condition, we strongly suggest staying at Yajiang county instead of Xinduqiao (3400 meters). On the way, we will stop over at Kangding for lunch, Pass of Mt. Zheduo (4298 meters), and Xinduqiao for the picturesque views. Generally, we will check in the hotel at Yajiang at around 17:00 if we leave Chengdu at 8:00 am.

DAY 3 

Drive from Yajiang to Riwa county(2800 meters) over the mountains

After a good rest at Yajiang, we will drive over Mt. Jianzhiwan (4659 m), Mt. Kazila (4718 m), Mt. Tuershan (4696 m), and the highest city in the world, Litang county (4014 m), to reach the Lost Horizon Shangri-la. Considering the AMS, we will stay at Riwa county (2800 m) instead of Yading village (3900 m). Riwa is also the tourist center where we will buy the Daochengyading admission ticket and tourist sight-seeing bus tickets in the next morning. Additionally, we can find much better accommodation with a lift at Riwa county. We know how hard it is to carry your luggage upstairs at the high altitude area.

DAY 4 

Full day visit Luorong Pasture, Milk Lake and Five-colors Lake in Yading Shangri-la

In the morning, we will catch the sight-seeing bus to reach Zhaguanbeng in 50 minutes. Zhaguanbeng is the sight-seeing bus terminal and also the start of the two visiting routes. Today, we will follow the longer route to visit Luorong pasture (4180 m), Milk Lake (4600 m), and Five-colors Lake (4800 m). First, we will walk 0.5 km from Zhaguanbeng to Chongu temple. Then, we will catch the electric car from this place to Luorong pasture in 20 minutes to save energy for 7 km walking. Once we reach Luorong pasture, we will have a real 5 km hike on the off the beaten track to Milk Lake. On the way, you can be blessed by all 3 Saint Mountains, Mt.Xiannairi, Mt.Xianuoduoji, Mt.Yangmaiyong and take great pictures. However, this hike is very hard as the altitude is from 4180 m to 4600 m. So, please hike as much as you can but never push yourself. If you are still energetic when you reach the Milk Lake, you can hike another 0.5 km to the Five-colors Lake. Anyway, we need to go back to Luorong pasture before 16:00 in order to catch the last sight-seeing bus back to Riwa county.

Stay Riwa county(Holiday Inn Express)

DAY 5 

Go back Yading Shangri-la to visit the Pearl Lake and then head to Daocheng

After breakfast, we will catch the sight-seeing bus go back Zhaguanbeng again for the Pearl Lake. Compare with yesterday’s hiking, the 1.5 kms from Chonggu temple to the Pearl Lake will be much easier. We will visit Chonggu temple and then walk through the original forest to the base of Mt. Xiannairi to see the pure green emerald lake with the magnificent snow mountain back ground. This journey only takes you 2-3 hours and then we will go back Riwa town to have lunch. After lunch, we will drive to Daocheng in 1 hour to catch the flight back Chengdu
